LA-based reggae ensemble The Lions' debut, This Generation, was released in 2012 on Stones Throw Records to great acclaim in reggae circles and beyond. Raised on classic reggae and soul, The Lions have carved out a distinct LA reggae style that has earned them praise from reggae enthusiasts around the world. Tom Chasteen, the main man behind LA's legendary Dub Club night, has now worked his dubbed out magic on This Generation for an EP of dub versions. On the process of creating The Lions vs Dub Club - This Generation in Dub, Chasteen says: "It was a blast dubbing The Lions record because there was so much to work with: beautiful harmony vocals, tough bass lines, sweet horn arrangements, and musical vibes that you cant get out of a laptop. The mixing was done rapid fire, bringing up each track on the mixing board, dialling in the sounds and then dubbing it live in real time while it's fresh. This record is not "remixed" in the modern sense, but "dubbed" in the classic Jamaican manner: adding some percussion and vocals here and there, but basically leaving the tracks as they are and deconstructing them with echo and reverb. The LA Reggae scene is really lively right now and this record is a cool meeting of the minds between artists who love the golden era of '70s Reggae but want to bring it up to date for a contemporary audience."
